What are the views on breast feeding in Italy?
My husband is army and we are now located in Italy. I am planning to give birth while we are living here and will be breast feeding my child. Of course on base they promote breast feeding, even posting signs about not BFing in the restroom. So of course I know on base it will be accepted for me to breastfeed when needed. But what about off post around town? I plan to ask the OB office my concerns, but I know they will insist it SHOULD be accepted. But will it really be accepted, or will I be the trashy American BFing in public? I plan to be discreet since I am a very modest person, but will it be frowned upon if I have to BF in a cafe or at the mall? I do plan to eventually pump and use bottles in public as I am so modest, but for the first couple months I do not wish to give my infant bottles. At some point I am sure I will be out and my child will get hungry. Will I feel banished to the restroom to feed my newborn?
